The End of Day 1 of my Pre Op Diet
This post won’t be much of what I thought it would be. Today was a day that I dreaded and was looking forward to all at the same time. I dreaded it because of the stuff I have to eat and the things I can not eat, but I was looking forward to the challenge. Oh boy did I get a challenge.
My Food Log
11AM – Optifast 800 Chocolate Shake (made from powder). I give it a 7 out of 10. Not too chalky and definitely not horrible. 1PM – Optifast 800 Chicken Soup (made from powder). I give it a 7 out of 10. I think it needs to be a bit hotter next time. 2:30PM – Optifast 800 Peanut butter Chocolate Bar. I give it a 8 out of 10. It was pretty good and easy to eat. 5PM – Optifast 800 Strawberry Shake (made from powder). I give it a 3 out of 10. I couldn’t finish it. Not good. 7:30PM – I had 5oz of chicken breast cooked in the instant pot with garlic, 135 g of yellow squash sauteed with 1/2 tsp butter and some of the chicken broth from the instant pot, and 175 g of fresh cantaloupe.
I ended up with only 3 1/2 Optifast products when I was supposed to have 5. I ate only around 900 calories. This is not good, but I was thrown a monkey wrench in my day when I was given news of a death in the family. This is someone who my kids and I were extremely close to. It really derailed me. Or at least it threatened to derail me. I feel a bit guilty talking about this while my family is hurting, but I have to recognize the hurdle that I passed today. Within an hour of getting the news I was hungry and feeling like I wanted to quit. I wanted to eat anything and everything in site. I cried and then realized I needed to call someone to talk me off the ledge of eating. I called my support person and used her encouragement and reminder of how important this time was to help me to stay the course. I can successfully say that I didn’t cave. I could have and no one would have been the wiser, but I didn’t. I kept the course.
A Last Minute Change
As I was writing this I realized I was starving. Knowing I was below my target calories of 1200 I decided to grab one of the ready made shakes I bought and get it down. It is the Optisfast HP Chocolate Shake. HP stands for HP. My doctor altered the plan for me to include one HP product. She didn’t explain why, but I suppose its because of my weight. I feel better doing this as it keeps my calories around 1086 which is better. Let me just say that I give this ready made shake a 10 out of 10! So thick and delicious!
This post is short and sweet as I need to get some sleep and be able to support my family tomorrow. I sincerely appreciate anyone who reads my posts and I hope that I am helping someone. Please feel free to ask any questions or make any comments in the comment section. I am here to help!
